worked: 37.5 Position Focus: Reporting directly to the Dean, the
Director, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) leads
the development and implementation of an effective strategy to
build a vibrant culture of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)
for all members of the YSN community and to advance DEI priorities
in all facets of YSN strategic plan, including the anti-racism
plan. The director will guide and lead YSN in efforts to create an
environment that values and demonstrates its commitment to equity,
diversity and inclusion. The position will be responsible for
developing, aligning, and/or integrating a range of new and
existing initiatives, policies and procedures into a cohesive
platform that will foster a more inclusive, welcoming, supportive,
and diverse higher education community within the school and with
its partners and affiliates. Understanding that this critical work
is the responsibility of everyone at YSN, this position will guide
the YSN community in expanding and extending the values of
DEI/anti-racism framework through teaching, scholarship, and broad
engagement of students, faculty, staff and alumni. The successful
candidate will establish and nurture collaborative partnerships
with all stakeholders: leadership, faculty, students, staff and
external stakeholders such as preceptors, clinical and community
agencies.
The Director will lead YSN, in collaboration with staff, faculty,
leaders and departments, in examination of current practices,
policies, procedures, programs, structures, and campus climate, in
order to develop a comprehensive, school-wide DEI strategic plan.
The Director will engage in ongoing assessment to create and
sustain a vibrant, anti-racist, anti-oppressive learning and
working environment that is welcoming and supportive of all, as
well as a plan that strives to eradicate equity gaps in student
participation and achievement. The Director will serve as a
resource for individuals and groups through consultation and
advisement regarding DEI matters. The Director of ODEI will serve
as the School Title IX Coordinator and will play a role in the
School compliance efforts and commitment to providing a learning
and working environment free from gender discrimination and sexual
harassment. Additionally, they will be responsible for providing
leadership and guidance to senior leaders, faculty, staff,
students, alumni, preceptors and others as a whole on matters
related to equity, diversity and inclusion/anti-racism work and its
impact on the YSN community. 1. Provide leadership, coordination,
consultation, assistance, strategic oversight, and direction,
regarding all DEI matters. 2. In collaboration with YSN community
members, provide leadership in the creation, implementation and
ongoing evaluation of the school's DEI plans and updates consistent
with the goals and objectives set by Inclusion, Diversity Equity &
Action Solutions (IDEAS) @ YSN-which is the school's diversity,
equity and inclusion council. 3. Provide operational management for
IDEAS @ YSN. 4. Lead YSN-level implementation for Yale
University-wide DEI goals. 5. Recommend policy, procedure and
structural improvements that remove barriers to student, faculty,
and employee success. 6. Cultivate and promote inclusive learning
and work environments that encourage and support DEI initiatives
such as organizational wide DEI workshops, multicultural and
appreciation events and advocacy for faculty, staff, student and/or
alumni affinity groups that support initiatives promoting learning
that is diverse and inclusive. 7. In partnership with the Executive
Deputy Dean, Program Chairs and faculty, support the development
and implementation of inclusive curricula and pedagogical
practices. 8. Work with the YSN leadership team to develop
strategies and opportunities to recruit and retain a diverse
faculty and staff workforce. 9. Develop metrics and dashboards to
ensure accountability, tracking, and monitoring of DEI efforts.
Work closely with relevant YSN offices in use of data tools (e.g.,
campus climate survey, demographic data, student completion and
employment data etc.) to compile reports that create benchmarks and
assess institutional progress regarding DEI efforts. 10. Develop
dynamic and intentional equity, diversity and inclusion programs
and initiatives for faculty, preceptor, staff and students that
adequately address the educational and social needs of our campus
community. 11. Develop and implement employee professional
development to support equity and multicultural competencies, and
an ability to work and thrive in an increasingly diverse academic
community. 12. Responsible for compliance and associated reports
related to equity, diversity and inclusion. 13. Serve as an ad-hoc
member of the Leadership Team in responding to emerging issues,
ideas, and challenges impacting YSN's ability to effectively move
forward with DEI efforts. 14. Serve as the Associate Dean for
Global Health & Equity's liaison to task forces, committees, and
activities working towards a unified Yale University-wide effort in
enhancing DEI. 15. Work internally and externally to establish
networks of experts and organizations involved in the national
discussion of DEI to consistently advise YSN Senior Leadership Team
on innovative ideas and program concepts for consideration,
selection and implementation. 16. Identify opportunities to
integrate DEI initiatives which advance diversity-building
partnerships in the community (campus and local). 17. Collaborate
with the YSN Office of Communications and Alumni Affairs to develop
materials to promote DEI goals and successes. 18. Utilizing
knowledge of federal, state, local, laws, rules, regulations,
policies and procedures, facilitate appropriate resolution to
reports of bias-related incidents, including working with faculty
and preceptors. 19. Identify and coordinate appropriate actions
(referral, trainings, and counsel) for any identified trends or
patterns identified 20. Other duties as assigned by the Associate
Dean for Global Health & Equity 21. Incumbent must be effective at
accomplishing goals through the work of others and coordinating
efforts performed by multiple individuals and groups.-- Required
Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in a related field and
three or more years of related experience or an equivalent
combination of education and experience. Required Skill/Ability 1:
Ability to communicate effectively (written, interpersonal, and
group communication) at all levels of the school, with
administration, faculty, staff, students, and external
constituents. High emotional intelligence and ability to handle
stressful, challenging and emotional situations, and create
thoughtful, fair, and institutionally aligned responses. Required
Skill/Ability 2: Ability to work with a diverse student body,
faculty, staff, other university constituents, and external
organizations. Expertise, knowledge and facility with best
practices in diversity, equity and inclusion. Required
Skill/Ability 3: Proven excellent organizational, planning and
leadership skills. Adaptability, including being comfortable with
ambiguity and change. Capable of representing YSN in multiple
contexts. Required Skill/Ability 4: Demonstrated ability to create
and sustain an environment of mutual respect, while continually
learning about differences in our community members to support
responsible, humane, and inclusive work and learning environments
for faculty, staff and students. Required Skill/Ability 5: Ability
with community organizing, including coalition-building to achieve
goals within a multi-stakeholder organization. Expertise, knowledge
and facility in applying anti-racism and anti-oppression frameworks
within organizations. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Terminal degree. 5 years or more experience w/DEI work. Experience
in higher ed. Proven ability to fulfill the NADOHE Standards.
Knowledge of health professions education. Supervisory experience
of small to moderate sized teams. Experience in organizational

implementation, and evaluation of programs. Facilitation.
