Description Make a Difference Today! MISSION OF THIS DEPARTMENT: To create transformational learning opportunities that empower youth to realize their full potential. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Enrichment Instructor for Guitar will lead engaging and age-appropriate music classes for students of varying skill levels in guitar and ukelele. The Enrichment Instructor will have a strong background in string instruments and music theory. They must possess the ability to motivate students, and have a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and energetic learning environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Review curriculum and create lesson plans Facilitate classroom-based lessons and activities applicable to elementary through high school age range Maintain student engagement in course material and redirect unwanted behaviors Maintain course kits, instruments and equipment and see to cleanliness functionality Communicate regularly with Coordinators regarding course matters including material needs, site specifics and curriculum efficacy Plan and deliver music classes in basic guitar techniques like using chords and scales; music concepts such as rhythm, melody, and harmony; and reading music Develop student skills that demonstrate technique and creates a fun and positive learning environment Provide structured warm-up and cool-down activities Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of students with different abilities and experience levels Prepare musical pieces that prepare students for performances and/or showcases Stay current with trends that are relevant and interesting for a range of student interests Encourage collaboration among students Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment Maintain attendance records and participate in staff meetings or training sessions as needed QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Official / unofficial college transcripts that confirms 48 completed college units (60 units for high school) or a passing score on an academic proficiency exam Experience in instructing/teaching, especially with elementary to high school aged students Ability to assess and address student challenges Adaptive to communication styles, motivation needs, and different learning needs Schedule flexibility/availability pertinent to after school instruction hours based on the needs of a given course cycle Experience working with youth in diverse communities CPR Certification (Adult, Child, and Infant) preferred Additional Requirements: Negative TB test result and COVID-19 vaccination record Completion of Live Scan background check Availability to work before/after school hours and some weekends Ability to travel to assigned school sites and to the Arc office PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and use hands for the duration of their shift; occasionally may be required to sit. The employee must have the ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds and remain active for extended class periods. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you will need: At least one year of experience working in after-school programs or youth recreation, especially in ethnically and culturally diverse communities. Qualified in the specific skill we are looking for to teach our students. To be a good communicator and self sufficient with limited supervision. College transcripts that show you have 48 college credit units completed OR take and pass an academic proficiency exam. To get a TB test (and provide proof that it is negative) and pass a Live Scan background check. If you are an English-Spanish bilingual speaker, your resume will stand out! If the school you will be working at requires a Covid-19 vaccination, then you must provide documentation that shows you are fully Covid-19 vaccinated. This position is part-time, non-exempt.
