Job Description:
- Perform complete history and physical as it relates to the head
and neck and neurotologic evaluation of patients.--Initiate, review
and revise treatment and therapy plans; record and present
pertinent data in a manner meaningful to the Supervising
Physician.
- Obtain and record vital signs into the chart
- Assist in Physician chart documentation during patient
encounters
- Provide cerumen management and minor ear debridement as
requested by the physician or audiologists under physician
supervision
- Perform endoscopy of the ear, nose and throat under physician
supervision
- Perform other skin or external audiotory canal procedures with
physician supervision
- Perform complete preoperative assessment, treatment plan,
postoperative counseling and documentation of patients scheduled
for surgery
- Perform counseling services, provide guidance and health
instructions to patients
- Write, electronically transmit, or call in prescriptions as
authorized.----The PA is authorized to prescribe any oral
antibiotic, antihistamine, decongestant, anti-fungal, proton-pump
inhibitor, reflux medication, antiemetics, diuretics , steroid
nasal spray, anti-inflammatory medication.----Pain medication is
limited to that previously prescribed by the Supervising
Physician.----In addition, the PA is authorized to refill any
prescription previously prescribed by the Supervising
Physician.
- Prescribe and obtain results for the following diagnostic
studies: MRI of the head, CT scan of the temporal bones, Audiogram,
ENG, OAE, Tympanogram, Electrocochleogram, VAT, Posturography,
EKG.
- Prescribe laboratory studies to assist in diagnosis or
pre-operative assessment.--
- Documentation of patient encounters in the chart or electronic
medical record
- Dictation for interoffice correspondence, procedures,
etc.
- Complete disability and other claim forms
- Maintain a log of laboratory, radiology studies and follow-up
with results
- Correspond with patients via telephone about lab results and
questions as delegated by physician
- Interact directly with office staff to provide optimal and
efficient office flow and throughput of patients
- Interact directly with other office and hospital staff,
administration, physicians, nurses, patients, and the general
public as the liaison for the practice
- Travel to offices and/or hospitals as necessary to perform
functions necessary for patient care
- Provide assistance in surgery as needed
- Round on inpatients prior to/after office hours on weekdays,
weekends or holidays as needed (optional)
- Collect, record and analyze chart data for research
purposes
- Recognize and evaluate situations which call for immediate
attention of a physician and institute, when necessary, treatment
procedures essential for the life of the patient
