Job Description:
Judge Advocates are commissioned officers within the Marine
Corps whose responsibility is to uphold the law outlined by the
Uniform Code of Military Justice as well as the core values of
honor, courage, and commitment. Unlike many opportunities in the
civilian sector, the Marine Corps allows Judge Advocates to
immediately serve as first chair as prosecutors or defense counsel.
-Judge Advocates can further specialize in various fields of law
such as military operational law, international law, cyber law, or
criminal justice.
The path to becoming a Marine Corps Judge Advocate begins with
attending Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. First
year and second year law students will attend Platoon Leaders Class
during the summer for one 10-week session before returning to
school. Third year law students and bar-certified lawyers will
attend Officer Candidates Course for 10 weeks and immediately begin
follow-on training upon accepting a commission as a Second
Lieutenant.
To apply, you must meet the below criteria:
US citizenship
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
Currently attending or graduated from an ABA accredited Law
School
22+ on the ACT or 1000+ on the SAT
2.0+ undergraduate GPA
150+ on the LSAT (waiverable if below)
Younger than 42 by time of commissioning
Be able to become physically fit with no major health issues
