Service Area Leader, Laboratory Services in Orange , California
Under minimal supervision, the Service Area Director Laboratory
is responsible for overseeing all Service Area l laboratory service
in the health system or organization.
Ensures that the laboratory provides optimal services; meets all
legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; and complies
with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of
Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote safe,
cost-effective and appropriate laboratory services
Provides for the educational needs of the laboratory staff in
Prepares a Service Area budget annually and measures actual
results against the budget
Ensures compliance with health systems policies and procedures
that apply to laboratory services.
Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local
laws, rules, and regulations.
Develops and implements goals and objectives for the laboratory
function that support the mission and goals of the
Develops and implements laboratory services in collaboration
with associated department services.
Responsible for hiring, development, and performance management
of service area lead laboratory caregivers.
Responsible for coordinating laboratory services in the region
through the supervision of the of the service area leads
Oversees plans, organization and management of the performance
of accurate and timely reporting of laboratory testing
Works with medical directors and management teams to meet
Graduation from an approved School of Medical Technology
5 yearsof experience in Acute care health setting
3 years of experience in Laboratory management positions
Ability to work independently and handle stress
Ability to work cooperatively with health system, hospital, and
laboratory staffs and the physician community
Ability to function effectively in the face of frequent
interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work
Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond
quickly to emergency requests.
Ability manage a diverse workforce.
Ability to communicate effectively – orally and in writing.
Working knowledge of: The practice of laboratory services in an
acute care setting; Laboratory reference materials and ability to
utilize them in the provision of laboratory services; Computer
systems in on-line information retrieval; Current laws/regulations
which affect the practice of laboratory services
MT (ASCP) license/certification or equivalent
