The Certified Diabetes Educator is responsible for autonomous
clinical case management and education with regards to various
aspects of diabetes care for patient/families with type 1 and type
2 diabetes and pre-diabetes. Education takes place in the setting
of return visits or group classes in the outpatient clinic, and in
the hospital for newly diagnosed patients, and established patients
with special needs. The Certified Diabetes Educator contributes to
the program and curriculum development.
* Required: Minimum one (1) year of Educator experience.
Previous experience with case management.
* Preferred: Two (2) years of Certified Diabetes Educator with
* Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or Minimum of
Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or equivalent and Registered
Dietitian (RD) with Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
* Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nutrition, or
healthcare related field.
* Preferred: CGM Sensor and Pump training and management.
* Required: Ability to relate and communicate positively,
effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and
consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond
courteously when under pressure. Exceptional verbal and written
communication skills; interpersonal relationship and collaboration
skills. Strong analytical and organization skills; excellent
critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills. Ability to
set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest
standards; ability to lead groups or projects. Ability to speak,
read, write, and understand English effectively at a level
appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job.
Ability to use computer and software necessary to the position
e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
* Preferred: Bilingual in English/ Spanish.
* Required: Basic Life Support (BLS); Certified Diabetes
Educator; Ped Emerg Assess Recog & Stabil (PEARS) - must be
obtained within 90 days of hire; Registered Dietician or Registered
Nurse -CA (RN)
