We are looking for a Palliative Care Chaplain for the Spiritual Care Department at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.Location: Orange, CA Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly hours Shift: 8 hour, Days (variable start times)Job Summary:The Specialty Chaplain provides professional and competent spiritual care ministry, and is responsible for serving the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of others in inpatient, outpatient and community settings. As a leader of the healthcare team, they are directly responsible for the implementation of the mission, values, polices, and procedures of the Department of Spiritual Care and the facility in which they serve.Essential Functions:+ Provide effective spiritual support and appropriate religious/spiritual resources that contribute to the well-being of the care recipients, their families, and caregivers. + Provide spiritual care that respects diversity and differences including, but not limited to culture, gender, and sexual orientation and spiritual/religious practices. + Facilitate group processes, such as family meetings, post trauma, caregiver debriefing, and support groups. + Formulate and utilize individualized spiritual assessments, interventions, outcomes, and care plans in order to contribute effectively to the well-being of the person receiving care, and document this care accurately/effectively in the appropriate records according to professional standards (including electronic medical record) at the point of service. + Promote, facilitate, and support ethical decision making in one's workplace. + Participate in IDT rounds as well as specialty goals of care patient/family meetings. + Present formally on spiritual health topics related to specialty for the IDT, chaplain colleagues, students, and greater community. + Serve as a resource regarding spiritual care specialty for chaplain colleagues. + Serve as the spiritual care specialist resource for equipping IDT as spiritual care generalists. + Coordinate and precept CPE resident rotations within specialty care team. + Participate in ongoing specialty team performance improvement projects. + Facilitate team growth and team care activities to support team health.Skills: + Catholic Context: Knowledge of the Religious and Ethical Directives of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. + Working knowledge of different ethical theories appropriate to ones professional context. + Ability to walk and stand for the greater part of the day. + Effective oral and written communication + Professional behavior and appearance. + Incorporate the spiritual and emotional dimensions of human development into ones practice of care. + Ability to utilize primary research and research literature to inform the profession of chaplaincy and ones spiritual care practice. + Understand and function within the institutional culture and systems, including utilizing business principles and practices appropriate to ones role in the organization. + Develop, coordinate, and facilitate public worship/spiritual practices appropriate to diverse settings and needs. + Facilitate theological/spiritual reflection for those in ones care practice. + Planning and supporting the development of individual skills and abilities.Minimum Position Qualifications:Experience:5 years of experience as a healthcare chaplainEducation: + Master's Degree in Theology, Divinity, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry or the equivalent applicable education from an accredited institution. + 4 UnitsAccredited or approved by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), by programs that were accredited by the former United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Commission on Certification and Accreditation (USCCB/CCA), or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC/ACSS). Equivalency for one unit of CPE (two units in CASC) may be considered.Licenses/Certifications:+ Maintain Specialty Board Certification by APC or NACC such as BCC-PCHAC and BCC-MC. + Maintain Board Certification by one of these Spiritual Care organizations: Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) through completion of required annual continuing education and participating in a peer review every five years. + Maintain current endorsement in accordance with the requirements of their faith spiritual tradition.Preferred Position Qualifications:Coursework/Training:Accredited or approved by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), by programs that were accredited by the former United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Commission on Certification and Accreditation (USCCB/CCA), or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC/ACSS).Experience: + Leadership in professional organizations such as APC, NACC, etc. + Participation in chaplain related, publication worthy research.Apply Today!
