Overview

OCTA's Summer College Intern Program is a ten-week paid student/intern program. You will gain real world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of transportation professional. You will have the opportunity to use problem solving, communication and decision-making skills as you gain valuable work experience.

As a Summer College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA's career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation's many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking.

Under direct supervision, students will perform a variety of professional, entry-level duties to obtain practical experience related to their major field of study and interest, and the sponsoring department's current business operations within OCTA and the Transportation Industry. Employment will be full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, for the duration of the ten-week program.

In this internship, you'll join a professional team who will provide you with the strategies and tools you'll need to deliver quality communications and meaningful outreach with Orange County's dynamic diverse communities. You'll be building up your portfolio of experiences and creating an impressive resume of public service. Whether it's talking with bus customers to get their ideas and suggestions on how to improve transportation, attending events to inform business and community leaders about OCTA or creating multicultural graphics to share on social media or to email to the movers and shakers of Southern California, you'll leave this internship knowing that you've made an impact by helping the community move forward.

The pay range is from $15.00 - $18.00 per hour depending on your education level. This position is not eligible for employee benefits.

This position will remain open until it is filled.

  • Execute multicultural public relations and/or diversity communications program and project development
  • Conduct informal and formal research along with other tasks to help with diversity projects
  • Create written and visual content to support diversity outreach projects, transit marketing, planning studies and construction projects.
  • Prepare for and participate in numerous internal diversity meetings to advance OCTA's diversity goals
  • Participate in numerous outreach events and activities with diverse audiences and constituencies.

Interest in:

  • Learning about the Diversity Outreach Field.
  • Learning the methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in Diversity Outreach Field.

Ability to:

  • Perform entry-level professional work.
  • Acquire increasingly complex and technical knowledge and skills.
  • Assume progressively responsible duties.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Requirements to qualify for the Summer College Intern Program are as follows:

  • College students must be enrolled full-time in a two or four-year college program, at an accredited college or university, and follow a course of study leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Students that graduate with their bachelor's degree from an accredited college in the fall of 2020 or the spring of 2021, are eligible.
  • College students enrolled full time and pursing a master's degree from an accredited college.

Desirable degree program for this assignment is Public Relations, Marketing, Public Administration, Sociology, Business Administration and Communications.

Special Qualifications:

  • College students pursuing a course of study leading to an undergraduate degree must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better.
  • College students pursuing a course of study leading to a graduate degree must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Must submit most recent college transcript.
