Job Description
The breast navigatorfunctions within the multidisciplinary team as
the structure teaching point contact for cancer patientsand their
families. The navigator serves as a point of contact for referring
physicians, patients, and caregivers, to provide resources
regarding accessing clinical and supportive care. The navigator
also assists patient's an understanding there are diagnosis,
treatment options, and the internal and community resources
available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a focal point for patients indicated as "high-risk" and/or
breast cancer patients
- Will direct patients to the appropriate resources or research
issues.
- Identifies and triages patients in the high-risk program.
- Provides nursing support to the breast Health Center by
delivering biopsy recommendations based on interpretation by the
breast radiologist.
- Schedule's patientsand manages post-biopsy complications.
- Notify the patient's physician or provider with positive biopsy
results.
- Delivers the breast cancer diagnosis and is sensitive and
timely manner
Develops, Implements and monitors the High-Risk Navigation
- Monitors in reviews policies and procedures related to the
cancer navigation program.
- Monitors and maintains a cancer navigator related database to
track andreport needs for program development.
- Develop and maintain aprofileof community resources for cancer
patients
- Research and identify funding sources available for cancer
patients such as community and intermittent sources (i.e.,
grants).
- Promotesthe program toassureaccess to patients in need of
services.
- Coordinates and/or assists with development of annual reports,
resource guidance, and other departmentpublications.
- Reviews and implements are risk assessment tool for breast
cancer patients(IBIS/TC; Ambry).
- Assists with the tracking and monitoring of with the breast
tech aide;center accreditation standards, commission on cancer
guidelines.

Requirements
- Prior clinical exposure in breast imaging as a technologist in
mammography or sonography strongly; this is not required as we will
train for this role.
- Prior experience as a breast navigator is preferred
- Breast Patient Navigator Certification preferred
- Experience working with a variety of contacts within and
outside of the workplace
- Strong project/program development and management experience
preferred
- Ability to manage group processes and build effective working
relationships
- Knowledge of the overall cancer disease process and treatment
options
- Dynamic and motivating teaching style in individual and group
teaching settings
- Knowledgeable an adult regarding styles in various teaching
methods: Ability to deliver educational programs to staff and the
community
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills including
demonstratedstrongphysician relations
- Knowledge ofHIPPAregulations as they pertain to patient privacy
and protected health information
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work with a minimal
amount of supervision and effectively establish work
priorities
- Self-motivated and proven ability to work both independently or
effectively as a team with a variety of healthcare specialists
- Effective problem-solving skills and ability to concentrate in
multiple and varied tasks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
includingproficiency inpublic speaking
- Experience with multiple computer software programs including
Microsoft office as well as PACS/RIS
- Ability to develop materials involving graphicsandtable
Pay Range: $30.00 - $34.00 / hr.
